8 Ways Christians Can Recognize International Women’s Day

4. Support Female Missionaries (And Let Them Be Human)

My church once hosted a missionary couple. The wife spoke fluent Mandarin, ran a trauma-healing ministry, and had adopted two special-needs kids. Yet everyone only asked her husband questions. Later, she told me, “Sometimes I feel like a footnote to his calling.”

Now, every March, our small group “adopts” a female missionary. We:

  • Send her a care package (think: good coffee, handwritten prayers)
  • Let her vent about loneliness without quoting Jeremiah 29:11
  • Ask specific questions: “How’s your heart, not just your work?”

Key move: Don’t just pray for her—pray her prayers. If she’s working with trafficked women, pray Psalm 82:3-4 over her: “Defend the weak and fatherless… rescue the oppressed.”
